Every Room I’m Standing in the Doorway Of

I have been looking for a reason to start writing for years. It started when I was a child. I used to write poetry and song lyrics and perform my creations with my dad. Then as a teen, I wanted to share my truths in another way, by blogging! But I did that thing that we all are guilty of sometimes. Where we self-sabotage and decide unilaterally that “no one would care what I have to say”. Every time I started, I hit a roadblock. I asked myself, “why would anyone want to read what I write?” and “How do I narrow down a topic to write about?” Eventually, the dream would just get lost in the wind and forgotten amidst the juggling of everyday life. I’m finally here because I have found my reason, my purpose for sharing, and I know exactly who it’s for!

To anyone that’s on the cusp, making moves, reaching milestones that used to feel impossible and to anyone settling into what it looks like to be really, truly your grown adult selves, this one’s for you.

I’ve reached a turning point. Suddenly, I have a world of opportunities to choose from and decisions to make and priorities to organize. It feels like when you’re graduating high school or college and being asked “what is it you want to do?” What do you say when you don’t really know who you are yet and the world is your literal oyster? Well, I didn’t know what to say. I made some educated guesses and coasted along for a while. Made good decisions along with the questionable ones, and gathered memories that would eventually help me become who I am today. My answers now to those venturing into adulthood questions would be so different. I feel like I’m standing at the precipice for the rest of my life again for the first time since 18. It’s daunting and scary and deeply exciting.

After four years I FINALLY married the love of my life, my partner, my best friend and confidant. We planned the celebration ourselves and did it all on a budget! I just got my name legally changed and we are planning the (only slightly delayed) honeymoon currently. I can’t wait to share more about the whole experience with you in my upcoming posts. Heads up, there will be a lot of wedding content. The process leading up to the event felt all consuming and I can’t believe it happened and it’s over. What they say about the day going quickly is true. I revisit it in my memories all the time now and have to pinch myself to believe it’s real.

The next upcoming major milestone is…drumroll please… turning 30!

Thirty, flirty, and thriving baby! I’ll get to learn “why your thirties are the best years of your life” as claimed by Poise magazine. I’ll be doing lots of at home projects as well as focusing on health, faith, and trying to grow our family. And on top of that, my husband (eeek!) will be coaching our son’s flag football team for the first time! It will be a season of reaching new depths as a family, especially now that I’m officially and legally a step mommy.

Career wise, I’m beginning the process of becoming a certified Financial Advisor while assisting one as my primary job. This will take serious focus and time and energy that I’m honestly not confident I have between home life, a full-time job, a part-time job, and everything else in between. (Can anyone relate?) Speaking of that part-time job, I get to teach dance to a lovely group of kids twice a week. Dance has and always will be a big part of my life. And something huge is coming up. I’ve been granted the opportunity to choreograph a lyrical piece for my dance studio’s Kids Co Production Group (our elementary aged performance group) for the first time! I teach ballet and jazz to the age group regularly, but I’ve never had the opportunity to do a production group dance. It’s pressure filled but an honor and very very exciting!

This season of life is going to be challenging and rewarding with so many personal, professional, and creative goals on the horizon. Honestly, I’m not sure how it will all fit together yet. But that’s kind of the point of a threshold-you don’t have to see the full painting from a dot on the canvas, you don’t have to see the whole room before walking into it. This blog is me, standing in the doorway, inviting you to come along while we navigate, becoming better than the version of ourselves we dreamt of being when we were kids. Better because this version is real and it’s coming to fruition.
